Coalition for Change's Popkhadze: If they poured petrol on Ivanishvili and set him alight, I wouldn't mind

“If a police officer conscientiously fulfils his official duties, Khabeishvili promises some compensation for this. I view this from a humorous angle. Levan Khabeishvili’s statement is more of a mockery of Georgian Dream’s moral standards than a genuine offer,” Coalition for Change member Gedevan Popkhadze said on Palitra News.

According to him, bribery offers are typically made in secret, and no one does this on television.

“Bribery by its nature is when you give someone money so that they use their official position to do you a favour. As a rule, bribery is a latent crime; it happens secretly, and no one offers bribes on television. Moreover, no one promises bribes for not breaking the law. If you tell a government representative that I’ll give you money if you conscientiously fulfil your duties, why should this legally qualify as bribery? Perhaps it’s debatable whether such a public statement is ethical or proper. Khabeishvili didn’t say that if you participate in a coup d’état, I’ll give you money for that,” Gedevan Popkhadze declared.

During the programme, Gedevan Popkhadze also responded to statements made by Georgian Dream members in the context of the ongoing civil confrontation in Nepal. According to him, it is Georgian Dream, not the opposition, that is “creating the preconditions for Nepal.”

“People did not start the processes in Nepal; it was the Nepalese government that brought the population to a point where they would behave in this manner. Now they’re saying don’t do the same thing, but why are they themselves doing exactly what Nepal’s government is doing? Why are they lying to people pointlessly? Why are they rigging elections? They do all this and then say, Do you want Nepal? I don’t wish for Nepal; they’re creating the preconditions for Nepal…

They plunder the budget, keep the population in poverty, serve Putin, put Georgia’s territorial integrity under threat, and then frighten us with Nepal?

I’ll tell you honestly, I wouldn’t mind any of them being physically destroyed. Ivanishvili is scum and vermin to me, and if they poured petrol on Ivanishvili and set him alight, I wouldn’t mind… I’m telling you honestly. They have instilled this emotion in me; it is not a feeling that originates from within myself.

I know Bidzina; we’ve shared a toast, had a relationship, and I’ve spoken with him. For you to bring a man to this state, to make me think this way… What I remember of his lies, betrayals, all sorts of filth, I remember he’d look you in the eye and deceive you. He illegally imprisoned people, took Georgia to Putin, and he’s still a man after this? This disgust I have is natural, provoked by their behaviour. So let them stop the cynicism; they’re creating this aggression.

“I’ll quote Murtalo: ‘Everyone takes their own life.’ I won’t commit violence against them, but they deserve all kinds of violence,” declared Gedevan Popkhadze.
