Coalition for Change’s Nika Gvaramia deems GD messages as treacherous, UNM narratives – populist games

“Two viewpoints are identified: GD’s ‘restoration of trust,’ which repeats Ivanishvili’s apology and is translated as ‘Forget about Abkhazia’ and UNM’s message that we should regain Abkhazia by war, which is political populism and mere war rhetoric,” wrote Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change, in his Facebook post.

According to Gvaramia, the first is a treacherous viewpoint, while the other is playing political games on people’s sentiments instead of the return of Abkhazia.

Gvaramia recalled Irakli Kobakhidze saying, echoing his statement regarding Abkhazia: “The agents received a new directive and are fulfilling this new instruction. The foreign agents have their task, to obstruct restoration of trust, while our goal is to contribute to the restoration of trust.”

Gvaramia also opposed the viewpoint proposed by jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili through the “Coaxing a snake out of its hole with sweet words” principle.

Gvaramia believes that two viewpoints are identified: GD’s ‘restoration of trust,” which repeats Ivanishvili’s apology and is translated as ‘Forget about Abkhazia’ and UNM’s message that we should regain Abkhazia by war, which is political populism and mere war rhetoric that in Gvaramia’s words “serves GD’s key propagandist line ‘Do you want war?”

“My position is rational and well-considered: let us offer the Abkhazians a proposal they cannot refuse, European Union membership, which would bring a European passport and all associated privileges, economic prosperity, strong security guarantees, the highest European safeguards for the Abkhaz national minority, and the permanent forgetting of the war.

Thus, two parties are identified: treacherous GD with its intention to cede Abkhazia and irresponsible, propagating war, populist UNM. I say that and promise that Georgia will be a member of the European Union and there will be no war,” Gvaramia wrote.
