Coalition for Change's Japaridze: Sanctions discussions intensify

Zurab Japaridze, one of the leaders in the Coalition for Change, stated that the discussions surrounding potential sanctions have intensified from both the United States and European Union member states.

According to Japaridze, Canada is also considering imposing sanctions despite lacking diplomatic representation in Georgia; however, the Canadian ambassador recently arrived to “clarify the situation.”

“There will be sanctions, regardless of the circumstances. The timing, extent, and specific targets of these sanctions remain uncertain, and no one has detailed information at this point. Secretary Blinken’s statement confirmed that sanctions will be implemented soon. While the exact timing is unknown—whether it will be in the morning or two or three days—sanctions are inevitable. Financial sanctions will likely be enacted in addition to travel restrictions,” he explained.
