Citrus Coordination HQ opens in Adjara to support harvest

The Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, alongside Adjara Government Chair Sulkhan Tamazashvili and Adjara’s Agriculture Minister, Denis Salukvadze, inaugurated a new citrus coordination headquarters in the seaside resort of Kobuleti.

This facility aims to ensure the smooth collection and storage of the citrus harvest this season.

Following a decision by the Adjara government, the state subsidy for industrially processed (non-standard) tangerines will be set at 0.35 tetri this year. The enterprise will pay five tetri, bringing the industrial processing price of tangerines to 0.40 tetri.

The Minister met with local farmers to discuss the process and gather insights. It is anticipated that the total citrus harvest will reach approximately 60-65 thousand tonnes. More than 20 processing plants will handle export-quality tangerines, while two canning factories in Kobuleti will process unlimited quantities of standardised citrus.

The coordination centre will be operational till February 1. Farmers can access detailed information via a dedicated hotline at 1501.
