Children turning six before November to be eligible to enter school
Georgia’s Minister of Education and Science, Giorgi Amilakhvari, decided to change the General Education Law to allow children who turn six before November 1 to register for the first grade in the 2023-2024 school year.
According to the Ministry of Education, the decision was made in response to a number of citizen requests advocating for a change to legislative norm limiting the age at which children can enroll in primary school.
“With the passage of the bill, children will have the option of continuing to receive preschool education and education services by enrolling in the school readiness program or enrolling as first graders,” the Education Minister stated.
Children born before November 1st will be offered an additional opportunity to register for first grade.
