Discussions about the package of amendments proposed to be made into Law on Broadcasting proceeded under the background of harsh debates during the sitting of the Parliamentary Branch Economy and Economic Policy Committee today.
Representatives of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) and private TV Companies expressed objections to the opposing remarks of Majority MPs Davit Chichinadze, Levan Koberidze and Kakha Okriashvili over the new legislative regulations.
The main claims concerned promotion of start-ups and admission of commercial advertisements. Some MPs even inquired if Public Broadcaster should exist at all.
Minority MP Roman Gotsiridze has recently submitted an initiative to the parliament based on which financing rule of Public Broadcaster is proposed to be changed.
