Carl Hartzell comments on the closure of the so-called checkpoint

Regardless of whether or not the death of a woman was related to the closure of the so-called checkpoint, that means there is still a humanitarian problem, – Carl Hartzell, EU Ambassador to Georgia said about the death of a 70-year-old woman in Akhalgori.

“The EUMM has made a statement on this issue. As we know, the mission is studying this case. We will continue pressuring to achieve opening of Akhalgori passes. This is a priority, as the crossings have been still closed for two months. Regardless of whether or not the death of a woman was related to the closure of the so-called checkpoint, that means there is still the humanitarian problem, which is reflected on the daily life of the residents living in that area. We hope, we will see some progress”, – Carl Hartzel noted.
