So-called “thieves-in-law” to be detained upon crossing of border if they committed crime

In case the draft-bill prepared by Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is activated, the so-called “thieves-in-law” will be detained upon crossing of Georgian state border if law enforcers have the information about the crime committed by them – Natia Mezvrishvili, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs stated.

Mezvrishvili expressed hope that after activation of the project, the statistics of guilty verdicts will increase.

The so-called “thieves-in-law” were detained on charge of being “thieves-in-law.” The majority of those detained were leaving courts with non-guilty verdict. The 9 out of 10 “thieves-in-law” were acquitted in 2017.
