Border Police detain two foreign nationals for illegal crossing of Georgian border
Following targeted operational measures and investigative efforts in Batumi and at the Sarpi border sector, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Border Police have detained two foreign nationals, identified as A.D., born in 1985, and J.K., born in 2000, for illegally crossing the Georgian state border.
According to the Border Police, such offences carry a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment.
“The investigation has established that the suspect identified as A.D. illegally crossed the Georgian border from the Republic of Türkiye into Georgia, bypassing the official checkpoint by hiding in a truck. Similarly, the suspect identified as J.K. crossed from Türkiye into Georgia unlawfully, also bypassing the border checkpoint,” the Border Police statement reads.
The investigation is underway under Part 1 of Article 344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which relates to illegal border crossings.
