BBC: Foreign nationals to be evacuated from Sudan

Diplomats and nationals from the UK, US, France and China are to be evacuated from Sudan by air as fighting there continues, a statement from the Sudanese army says.

Army chief Fattah al-Burhan agreed to facilitate and secure their evacuation “in the coming hours,” it said.

Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group agreed on a 72-hour ceasefire until the end of Kurban Bayramı. In the meantime, humanitarian corridors will be opened to evacuate the civilians.

Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group have been engaged in fierce fighting since April 15. The battle for key sites left over 400 civilians dead. Residents struggle with power cuts and food and potable water shortages in the capital Khartoum.
