The trial of Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, is underway at Batumi City Court. The case concerns an administrative offense related to posting a sticker.
At the hearing, Amaglobeli stated that she does not see herself as a lawbreaker and believes that placing a sticker should not be treated as a crime.
“I find it difficult to accept this situation as real. I don’t know what the law says exactly, but this is the second time I’m being tried over the same sticker. I consider it unfair. I didn’t post the sticker to spread harmful content. On the contrary, the phrase ‘Georgia on strike’ is, to me, a noble statement—an expression of solidarity and protest in support of those unjustly arrested during the rally,” said Amaglobeli.
Mzia Amaglobeli now faces a new administrative charge, and the court is expected to resume the related criminal case.
Meanwhile, a rally in support of Amaglobeli is being held outside Batumi City Court.
Amaglobeli was detained under Article 173 on charges of insulting police officers. The incident dates back to January 11, when she was initially held for one hour on administrative charges. Following her release, she was re-arrested on criminal charges, accused of slapping Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze.
