Azerbaijan’s President ratifies 20-year natural gas supply agreement with Georgia

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has officially ratified the agreement regarding the supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Georgia.

The document in question, titled Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on the Supply of Natural Gas to Georgia, was originally signed on May 18 in Baku.

According to the executive decree, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan is tasked with ensuring the implementation of the agreement’s provisions once it enters into force.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has been instructed to formally notify the Georgian government upon the completion of the domestic legal procedures required for the treaty to take effect.

For context, the aforementioned accord was finalised during Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s official visit to Baku. The deal extends the existing gas purchase and sale agreement between Georgia and Azerbaijan for an additional 20 years, while also guaranteeing the security of social gas supplies to the public.
