Apple TV series Drops of God season 2 will introduce millions of viewers to Georgian wine culture and cuisine
On January 21, the second season of the Emmy-winning multilingual series Drops of God will premiere on Apple TV, inviting millions of viewers worldwide on a captivating journey into the realms of wine culture and gastronomy, including Georgia, the National Wine Agency reported.
“A feature-length series centred on wine could not overlook Georgia. This reflects the success Georgian wine has achieved on the international stage. Georgian wine culture is recognised not only within the wine industry but also globally as one of the nation’s most significant cultural achievements. Around a year and a half ago, we met with the series’ producers and writing team. We eagerly await the series launch, which will play a vital role in raising awareness of Georgian wine. The series will inspire viewers to taste Georgian wine. This recognition is yet another testament to the efforts of the National Wine Agency,” said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
According to the Agency, part of the second season of Drops of God was filmed in Georgia, with the participation of the production companies Studio 99 and Asi Film, as well as support from the Produce in Georgia initiative and the Film in Georgia programme of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
They also noted that the project’s consultant was Shalva Khetsuriani, President of the Georgian Sommeliers Association.
“Drops of God is based on the bestselling Japanese manga of the same name and is a French-Japanese drama that has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences worldwide. The series revolves around the legendary French sommelier Alexandre Léger, who has amassed the world’s largest and most valuable wine collection. The first season’s storyline centres on this collection’s mysteries. In the new season, the characters’ quest is to uncover the origin of the finest, yet unnamed, bottle of wine in the collection. The protagonist’s journey takes him to Georgia, as well as other countries, in pursuit of this goal,” the National Wine Agency explained.
