Andria Jagmaidze: Death of Patriarch have become shared sorrow, Georgians have become each other’s mourners
“The death of the Patriarch has become a shared sorrow, and we, Georgians, have become each other’s mourners,” said Andria Jagmaidze, Head of the Patriarchate’s Public Relations Service.
According to Jagmaidze, although the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi was open 24 hours a day, not everyone was able to visit during these days.
He noted that citizens will now have the opportunity to attend memorial services and visit Ilia II’s grave at Sioni Cathedral.
“There will be memorial services held every day at Sioni Cathedral. The schedule has been published, with services taking place from morning until evening. The clergy will lead continuous services throughout the day, and everyone who wishes to attend will be able to do so.
The Patriarch’s passing has united people in shared grief—strangers were brought together by this sorrow. Many were unable to come, even though the Trinity Cathedral was open around the clock. However, now everyone will have the opportunity to visit his grave,” said Andria Jagmaidze.
