Anders Adlercreutz: Finland supports Georgia's candidate status once preconditions met

“We support granting the candidate status to Georgia once the preconditions are met,” said Anders Adlercreutz, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering of Finland.

According to Anders Adlercreutz, all countries aspiring at EU membership should meet the same standards.

“We support granting the candidate status to Georgia once the preconditions are met. There is still some work to do. We view it as important that Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine have a clear path towards membership. The same standards should be met by everybody, both present members and coming members.

A merit-based approach has been the cornerstone of the Finish stance towards enlargement, and we are really happy to see the progress that has been made in Moldova and Ukraine, just to mention a few countries, in really difficult circumstances, they have made considerable progress,” he said.
