Ambassador Herczynski: EU condemns any form of violence, at any time and by anyone
“On September 24, local embassies of European countries issued an unprecedented joint statement condemning violence and urging for dialogue,” said EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczynski.
According to the Ambassador, the EU condemns any form of violence, at any time and by anyone.
“Let me be loud and clear. The European Union condemns violence in any form, in any shape, at any time by anyone. This is the European Union’s position, in particular case of Georgia, the day after local elections on the 5th of October, High Representative/ Vice President, Kaja Kallas, and Commissioner responsible for enlargement, Marta Kos, they have both issued a joint statement urging not to resort to violence.
What I also want to say is that 10 days before elections here, local embassies of European countries on the 24th of September have issued an unprecedented joint statement – 27 European countries, 25 EU member states and two other non-EU European countries – condemning violence and urging for dialogue. This is a very crystal-clear European Union position,” he said.
The EU Ambassador welcomed the European Parliament’s decision to award two jailed journalists, Mzia Amaglobeli from Georgia and Andrzej Poczobut from Belarus, with the EU’s 2025 Sakharov human rights prize.
“I welcomed the fact that the European Parliament decided to grant its annual Sakharov Prize to two jailed journalists, Andrzej Poczobut of Belarus and Mzia Amaglobeli of Georgia. Those two journalists are symbolic for journalistic freedom, for the courage to speak out, to criticize the authorities. And, this was a decision taken by the EP,” he said.
