Alilo Christmas Procession is being held traditionally in Tbilisi today. Participants of the procession gathered at Rose Square and are expected at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.
The procession participants stop at different places and gather food and candies from people. The gathered food and gifts will be distributed to orphanages, elderly houses and penitentiary facilities.
Hundreds of people usually take part in the march. They will pass Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Baratashvili Street. At the Patriarchate they will meet with the Patriarch, who will bless the Alilo participants.
Thereafter, they will go to the Trinity Cathedral through Baratashvili Bridge. Some of the march participants will head to the Presidential Residence.
The Alilo tradition dates back from the 5-6th centuries. Its celebration was resumed a few years ago.
