Alilo – traditional Christmas procession marching has been held today in Tbilisi. Alilo took start from Rose Square in Tbilisi at noon and ended at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.
Traditionally, participants of Alilo stopped at several places and gathered candies, food and presents.
Hundreds of people took part in the march. They passed Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Baratashvili Street.
Alilo participants met Parliament Speaker and MPs at the Parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue. Tbilisi Mayor has presented gifts to the participants of the event.
Part of the procession’s partakers went to the Patriarchate. They also arrived at Presidential Residence, where they were hosted by President Giorgi Margvelashvili and the employees of administration.
The gathered food and gifts will be distributed to orphanages, elderly houses and penitentiary facilities.
Alilo tradition dates back from the 5-6th centuries. Its celebration was resumed a few years ago.
