Ahali's Melia calls for clarity on May 26 rally, warns against confusion that weakens resistance

“May 26 is a day of historic importance that now carries an additional responsibility—an obligation to fight for the preservation of our independence in the face of a regime whose anti-Georgian policies threaten our sovereignty and aspirations for integration into the developed world,” stated Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Ahali party.

According to Melia, the era of political ambiguity must end.

“The time has come to end political confusion and vagueness. All questions must be answered clearly—what are we doing? Are we entering a sham election? I call on everyone to exercise common sense and political intuition. I have never refused to participate in elections. However, the Georgian Dream regime has undermined the electoral process—you cannot legitimise a fundamentally flawed election. Participating would only endorse what is nonexistent, even if the election itself is of poor quality. This simple question must be addressed by all political parties, especially since many have already decided to boycott, convinced that the fight must continue to the very end. The resistance remains steadfast, and the fight for our country’s freedom persists. With over 50 political prisoners, they continue to ask us: what are we planning to do?”

Melia emphasises that confusion and vagueness weaken the movement of resistance.

“I sincerely hope that by May 26, all political leaders and responsible figures will provide clear answers. This day must not resemble March 31, which was incompatible with a serious, unwavering fight. On one hand, we are committed to resistance; on the other, many are contemplating entering the local election race. People ask about our plan after the boycott. The answer is: the boycott itself is a plan. Non-collaboration with the regime is a plan. Deepening and expanding the regime’s international isolation—that’s also a plan.”

Society deserves transparent answers from all political entities. Let them honestly admit whether they intend to participate in a non-existent race—that is, a clear answer in itself. The persistent confusion and vagueness only serve to weaken our resistance.

Melia invites everyone to join the rally on May 26 at Rustaveli Avenue, expressing hope that this gathering will not resemble the March 31 rally and that all questions will be openly addressed.”
