Actor Kakhi Kavsadze to be buried at Saburtalo Cemetery

 

Kakhi Kavsadze, a well-known Georgian film and theatre actor, will be buried on Saturday at Saburtalo Cemetery, next to his wife. Public Funeral is underway at Rustaveli Theater.

Kakhi Kavsadze died at the age of 85 on April 27. Kavsadze was undergoing medical treatment at the First University Clinic for the last several weeks.

Kakhi Kavsadze graduated from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University in 1959. He debuted in cinema in the 1950s. Kavsadze was awarded People’s Artist (1981) and Festival Prize winner of the city of Dushanbe (1989).

His notable roles include Adam (Divine Comedy), Tavadi Kotsia (Gushindelni), Devdariani (Sabraldebo Daskvna), Iliko (Me, Grandma, Iliko and Ilarion), Simon Chachava (The Caucasian Chalk Circle), Lord (Richard III), Kent (King Lear) and Rasputin (Kvachi Kvachantiradze).

Kakhi Kavsadze’s star was unveiled in front of the Rustaveli Theater in 2008.
