19 health workers died from coronavirus in Britain

The 19 health workers have died from Covid-19 in Britain – Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in an interview with BBC Breakfast.

“My heart goes out to their families, these are people who have put themselves on the frontline,” he said.

“The work is going on to establish whether they caught coronavirus in the line of duty while at work or whether, like so many other people, caught it in the rest of their lives. It is obviously quite difficult to work that out. “What matters is we pay tribute to their service,” Hancock said.

The death toll in British hospitals has reached almost 9,000, with 980 more deaths reported yesterday, a figure that exceeded the deadliest day so far in Italy, the country worst hit by the virus.

Among those who have been infected is Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is recovering in hospital after spending three nights in intensive care.
