Use of armed forces for political purposes is targeted against armed forces and the country’s interests,” Vladimer Chachibaia, Head of Joint Staff of Georgian Armed Forces said in a statement.

According to Chachibaia, Georgian armed forces represent a politically neutral state institution the objective of which is the protection of state sovereignty and independence.

“Georgian army belongs to every citizen and consists of public representatives regardless of their ethnic, religious or political viewpoints,” reads the statement.

Chachibaia commented on the statements made by former military high-ranking officials through mass media outlets in connection with 2018 presidential elections in Georgia.
