The health status of Ilia Tvaliashvili, a cameraman of the Georgian Public Broadcaster’s First Channel, who suffered eye injuries and concussion at the anti-Tbilisi Pride rally, is satisfactory, said Giorgi Kordzakhia, New Hospitals Clinical Director. “His degree of injury is superficial. There is no evidence to suggest disability,” Kordzakhia said.

Georgian Public Broadcaster’s First Channel cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili was injured during the anti-Tbilisi Pride rally in downtown Tbilisi on July 5.

Representatives of various media outlets in Georgian regions of Imereti, Shida Kartli, Samegrelo and Kakheti, gathered on Tuesday to protest in solidarity with their colleagues, who suffered violence at the anti-Pride rally in downtown Tbilisi. Journalists called on the relevant agencies to timely investigate the offence and punish abusers.

Fifty-five persons, among them fifty-three media representatives, were assaulted during the anti-Tbilisi Pride rally, according to the Interior Ministry. The police detained several people for illegally thwarting professional activities of media so far.
