Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held an “interesting discussion” with the ambassadors of NATO countries in Brussels on Monday.

FM said the ambassadors firmly back the Bucharest Summit decision [that Georgia will become a NATO member].

“Our NATO partners voiced a unified stance that no changes are expected over Georgia’s integration process to NATO. They hold a firm position that the Bucharest Summit decision will not be back-pedalled. No one has the right to consider this or that region as their sphere of influence, the country has the sovereign right to choose its security alliance, this is a fundamental right that will not be revised,” Zalkaliani underscored.

Similar topics are on the agenda of today’s meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, FM noted.

“I will focus on our prospects. As you know, the NATO Madrid Summit is planned shortly. We will talk about how to act jointly, in a coordinated manner, so as not to damage Georgia’s NATO integration process, and be guided by new approaches so that Georgia can join the organization as soon as possible,” Zalkaliani added.
