Faults in Justice System - Is Chairwoman of Supreme Court pressured?

Nino Gvenetadze, Chairperson of Supreme Court of Georgia alleges that she is pressured. The person, who should be the guarantee of execution of justice in the country, made this statement during the noisy sitting of Justice Supreme Council on November 6.

The information was released in media on November 9 that Gvenetadze was quitting the post. The statement of Supreme Court today read that Chairwoman of the court continued working in her usual regime.

Tea Tsulukiani, Justice Minister commented about the recent conflict in Justice Council this afternoon. She said that improvement of communication among the council members was necessary. Also according to Minister, appointment of judges did not concern the government.

After several weeks of pause, Gvenetadze signed the order on lifetime appointment of 34 judges. Before signing the order, head of Georgia’s Supreme Court and Supreme Council of Justice held a meeting with judges concerning the regulation of appointment for lifetime. The judges, who have already been appointed for lifetime and those who are not yet, attended the meeting.
