Education Minister expressed hope that problems would be resolved in Wrestling Federation

I hope that problems will be soon resolved at Wrestling Federation – Mikheil Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports stated.

Minister said that investigation was ongoing and it would answer all questions. “Georgian sports needs a peaceful environment. The year of 2019 will be important with international tournaments and preparations for Olympiad,” Batiashvili stated.

On January 22, police detained Gega Gegeshidze, Chief of wrestling federation over a violent assault on Levan Datunashvili, a two-time European champion during a national tournament at Tbilisi Sports Palace.

A video aired on national television appears to show Gegeshidze hitting Datunashvili, the Greco-Roman wrestling European champion in 2016 and 2017, on the head with a metal object as he walks from the ring, leaving his face covered in blood. The court released Gegeshidze on bail and he is retaining the position.
