Zurab Japaridze: US delegation’s questions touched on recently adopted regulations
“The delegation of U.S. congressional staff already had information about everything that has been happening in the country in recent months. There were just some details that we provided additional information on,” said Zurab Japaridze, leader of Girchi – More Freedom, after meeting with a delegation of U.S. congressional staff visiting Georgia.
According to Japaridze, the United States remains a partner of Georgia and the Georgian people.
“Venezuela and Syria are the two contexts where it is possible to work with the U.S. to help secure recognition of Georgia’s territorial integrity and to encourage the withdrawal of recognition of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. This issue was important. The second issue concerned the broader decline of democracy and human rights in Georgia and the general situation in this regard,” Japaridze said.
He noted that the delegation’s questions also touched on recently adopted regulations, which he said appeared to be timed to coincide with the visit and could create challenges for political actors and civil society in Georgia. Japaridze said the delegation had information about the overall situation, and his meeting provided additional details about developments over the past few months.
“The United States remains a partner of Georgia and the Georgian people. They are interested in Georgia being a developed, liberal, successful democracy, and they will do everything for this,” he added.
