Writer Guram Dochanashvili buried in Tbilisi

Modern Georgian classicist and writer Guram Dochanashvili was buried at the Saburtalo cemetery on Tuesday. The commemoration was held at the Saint Trinity Cathedral in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

Guram Dochanashvili died on April 3 at the age of 82. He spent his last days in the hospital due to a deteriorating health condition.

Guram Dochanashvili graduated from Tbilisi State University, Faculty of History. On April 7, 1966, his first book, Crossing the Mountain, was published. In 1961, Dochanashvili’s first short stories were published in the Tsiskari magazine.

In 1962-1975 Guram Dochanashvili was a junior researcher at the Archaeological Department of the Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography.

Guram Dochanashvili’s most outstanding works are “Samoseli Pirveli”, “The Man Who Loved Literature”, “Water (Po) Lo or Restoration Works”.

Guram Dochanashvili has received the Saba Literary Prize for his outstanding contribution to the development of literature and the Vazha-Pshavela Prize for the novel “On the Blind”. He became an honorary Tbilisi citizen in 2020.
