Work commences on revitalisation of Ganmukhuri and Anaklia coastline
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure has launched a new competition to design the revitalisation of the Ganmukhuri and Anaklia coastline in the Zugdidi municipality.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the project aims to fully transform the recreational area into a vibrant, multifunctional, all-season coastal destination.
“Infrastructure will be developed across a 66.5-hectare site, offering spaces dedicated to recreation, sports, and cultural events. The coastline will be divided into several functional zones, including children’s playgrounds, educational and cultural areas, sports fields, and zones for training and leisure. Pedestrian and bicycle paths will be laid out, and a parking area will be integrated seamlessly into the overall landscape design.
The coastal infrastructure of Ganmukhuri and Anaklia will encompass both new constructions and the refurbishment of existing facilities. Plans include an open-air stage, a decorative lake, and a pedestrian bridge connecting Ganmukhuri and Anaklia. The project also envisions the creation of commercial and educational spaces, alongside pergolas, accessible public sanitation facilities, open showers, and fountains. Outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, electricity, water supply, sewage, drainage, and security arrangements will complete the development.
Throughout the design process, environmental responsibility will be a key priority. The project will incorporate native plant species, promote biodiversity conservation, facilitate waste separation, and explore renewable energy options. The ultimate goal is to create a safe, environmentally sustainable environment where both locals and visitors can relax, socialise, and enjoy the coast in harmony with nature,” the Ministry of Infrastructure stated.
