Vice Speaker Tsilosani: UNM was active opponent of family values in parliament; nobody believes Khabeishvili

“We had numerous important debates in parliament, and the United National Movement (UNM) was one of the most active opponents of family values. Nobody is a fool, and absolutely nobody believes Khabeishvili,” Vice-Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani has stated.

Tsilosani was asked a question regarding the letter published by Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the United National Movement’s Political Council.

“Levan Khabeishvili’s opinions cannot possibly carry any weight with us. This man is particularly notorious for his reckless actions. A single post of his clearly shows that he is contradicting himself. He says ‘a woman is a woman, a man is a man’, yet he also claims that the European Union is not asking us to legalise same-sex marriage. You can see how many lies are packed into his very first sentence. They have never shown any real support for the principles that a woman is a woman, a man is a man, and that a family is the union of a man and a woman. We had numerous important debates in parliament, and the United National Movement was an active opponent of family values. These people were actively demonising the Georgian people, who chose family values, to their patrons abroad. For them, both the church and the family are social and religious norms that must be directly fought against. Nobody in this country is a fool, and absolutely nobody believes Khabeishvili,” Tsilosani stated.

For context, Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the UNM Political Council, outlined his positions in a letter published on his Facebook page. Khabeishvili wrote that ‘same-sex marriage will never exist in Georgia,’ asserting that a family ‘always will be the union of a man and a woman.’ Regarding foreign policy, he stated that the party ‘will maintain a rational, state-centric policy towards the Russian occupiers’ to guarantee stability and peace unconditionally.
