Vice Speaker Kakhiani condemns cynical claims linking small radical group to entire Georgian society
“Marta Kos stated that radical actions are being carried out in the name of the Georgian people, which we often see on Rustaveli Avenue. Such statements have become more frequent when individuals speak on behalf of the Georgian populace,” Giorgi Kakhiani, Vice Speaker of Parliament, said.
He emphasised that, in reality, the majority of Georgians hold a different perspective on many issues and support the policies of the Georgian Dream government.
“When statements like these are made at a time like this, and they refer to that small group of our society we see on Rustaveli Avenue, it either indicates a lack of accurate information about what is truly happening in our country and whom the Georgian people support, or they are outright cynical towards our population.
I would advise those making such statements to better understand the true sentiments of the Georgian people regarding current events, and to speak accordingly. Otherwise, such comments risk undermining European values and causing disappointment among a large segment of our society,” Kakhiani stated.
Meanwhile, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, expressed hope before the EU Foreign Council that “with the support of your people, the Georgian authorities will come back on the European path. Of course, it is in their hands.”
