Vice Speaker Kakhiani affirms commitment to strong, balanced party system with robust opposition

“We do not wish to destroy anyone. We aim to establish a robust party system in Georgia, where, alongside the government, there will be strong opposition parties, and radical, destructive groups will not dominate the opposition landscape,” MP Giorgi Kakhiani, Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, stated.

He explained that the Constitution provides for declaring a party unconstitutional if it engages in unlawful activities.

“This is why we have appealed to the Constitutional Court. Regarding the United National Movement’s lawsuit, I am not aware of the specifics of their appeal, but they must understand that their activities are regulated by legislation, and any breaches will be dealt with through the Constitutional Court.

For radical groups, legislation often only appears to serve their narrow party interests. They refuse to recognise legislation or any authority above their own. For them, nothing is more important than their party interests, even if it means taking harmful steps against the country. There have even been instances of betrayal in their actions,” Kakhiani stated.
