Varketili metro station to resume normal operations on March 16

“Varketili Metro Station will resume serving passengers in its usual mode from March 16, operating daily from 06:00 to 00:00, after the main part of ongoing rehabilitation works was completed,” the Tbilisi City Hall reported.

According to the City Hall, due to the restoration of the station’s regular schedule, the temporary bus route Bus N174 (Varketili–Samgori temporary route) — which transported passengers between Varketili Metro Station and Samgori Metro Station — will be canceled starting March 16.

Rehabilitation works were carried out on the reinforced concrete arch on the lower platform of the station. In particular, corroded and damaged ceiling surfaces were cleaned and treated, while the voids behind the arch were filled and sealed using special technical solutions. Additionally, to prevent groundwater leakage, the temperature grooves and seams of the reinforced concrete arch, as well as the cast iron brackets of the inclined escalator tunnel, were cleaned and hermetically sealed.

Paving works on the lower platform and in the inclined escalator tunnel have also been completed.

At the same time, a rehabilitation project is currently being prepared for damaged structures in the station’s upper vestibule, specifically the load-bearing reinforced concrete beams. Once the project is finalized, rehabilitation and reinforcement works will begin.

According to Tbilisi City Hall, the entire rehabilitation process at Varketili Metro Station is scheduled to be completed in the summer of this year.
