US Embassy keeps monitoring Saakashvili's case

Kelly Degnan, the US Ambassador to Georgia, says the Embassy is closely monitoring Mikheil Saakashvili’s situation and is reviewing new reports.

“We are continuing to monitor his situation very closely. We are going through the recent reports just like others are. Some of the recently released reports haven’t been translated into English.

The main thing is that the government takes whatever steps are necessary based on this new information. We’ve all been waiting for credible, reliable medical conclusions as to Mr Saakashvili’s health before anybody can know what is the best course of action.

As the United States has said repeatedly, it is important to ensure that Mr Saakashvili receives the medical care that he needs and that his human rights are respected. We will continue to advocate for the government to take appropriate steps based on this recently released medical information,” Kelly Degnan stated.
