UNM's Zodelava: Since our arrest, much of the opposition has called for our execution
According to Murtaz Zodelava, a member of the United National Movement, sixty individuals have been arrested in relation to the events of October 4, an attempted storming of the Presidential Palace building.
During today’s court hearing, Zodelava stated that those charged in connection with October 4 might be eligible for bail or other measures.
He expressed that “there is no one, neither NGOs nor international organisations, standing up for those imprisoned over October 4.”
“I don’t believe these people should be here. They are participants in the protest. I am willing to discuss recognising all the charges, but I could take responsibility for everything on behalf of those 60 families behind these individuals. I am only aware of three people here; I don’t know them at all. Perhaps with some moderation, they might consider bail or some other arrangement.
Since the day of our arrest, a large part of the opposition has been demanding our execution, and now this charge is being applied to these people as well. There is no one, neither NGOs nor international organisations, advocating for the prisoners of October 4. At the very least, give them a chance to breathe. Look at these people with a different perspective. Don’t cheer for us, I am used to that, and I am fed up with it,” said Murtaz Zodelava.
