UNM's Pavlenishvili: True unity is impossible with those who do not join protest, including November 28 rally

“It is profoundly significant that a year has now passed since the Georgian people’s struggle against tyranny entered a completely new phase. Once again, let us demonstrate to our country, the international community, and the world that the protest endures until victory is achieved,” declared Irakli Pavlenishvili, Deputy Secretary General of the United National Movement opposition party.

According to Pavlenishvili, the rally that has been ongoing since November 28, 2024, is unprecedented.

“This is an unparalleled, continuous protest in our country’s history. Despite the unprecedented repression carried out this year, the people have not broken; they continue to protest. Thousands gather on Rustaveli Avenue every day. Naturally, there should be a large turnout today. I am confident that it will be so. Our struggle will persist until it becomes clear in our nation whether we are aligned with the West or the East in terms of civilisation. I am certain that it will become evident that we are Western in our aspirations, that we desire to live in a democracy,” Pavlenishvili stated.

Furthermore, Pavlenishvili emphasised that true unity cannot be achieved with those who do not remain in opposition and do not participate in the protests, including the November 28 rally.

“What kind of unity can we speak of with such individuals? It is beyond comprehension. Those forces that remain in opposition, whether you like it or not, find themselves in the same situation. When we are in opposition, we continue protesting in the streets, and during such times, we coordinate our efforts. There is no alternative to standing together; otherwise, there is no point in uniting in a common struggle until an election process takes place in the country,” Pavlenishvili asserted.
