UNM's new Chair: Elections proved defeating party 'impossible'

The new Chair of the United National Movement (UNM) party, Levan khabeishvili, on Monday thanked his voters, saying “the elections shown that defeating the party is impossible.”

In his remark, Khabeishvili stressed the need for unification and fight for the common goals.

“The United National Movement is Georgia’s sole political party that has demonstrated its adherence to democratic and Western principles. This election is a clear and obvious example of it.

Today marks the start of the process that will take our nation to peace, just as Misha [ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili] and his fellow-fighters did in 2003.

Starting today and with fresh energy, we begin a difficult but continuous battle to defeat the oligarchic regime,” Khabeishvili declared.

He also said that “the victory belongs to Mikheil Saakashvili, who is now fighting for his life.”

“Misha, I promise you, we will not stop until your life and health, as well as our country’s independence, are safe. This victory belongs to all political prisoners. This triumph is dedicated to our Ukrainian sisters and brothers. We support them,” he added.

With 52.58% of votes, Levan Khabeishvili has been elected a new UNM Chair after beating Nika Melia (40%), Giorgi Mumladze (3.68%), and Nona Mamulashvili (3.73%).
