UNM's Levan Sanikidze deems June 20 protest as first pro-Western rally

“The June 20, 2019, protest was the first pro-Western rally in Georgia’s history which was dispersed in favor of Russia. A fair court and prosecutor’s office must investigate this case,” said Levan Sanikidze, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party.

According to Sanikidze, neither acting nor former high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream (GD) party should avoid responsibility.

“On June 20, people lost their eyesight and sustained severe body injuries. It was the first pro-Western rally in Georgia’s history which was dispersed in favor of Russia. The countdown began from that date and we witnessed its continuation from November 28 when each day at Rustaveli Avenue was June 20.

These developments require a comprehensive investigation, neither acting nor former high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream party should avoid responsibility. However, a fair court and prosecutor’s office must investigate this case. The era of phoney court and prosecutor’s office must end once and forever in this country,” said Levan Sanikidze.
