UNM Tbilisi Assembly member quits party
Nino Kvitaishvili, a member of the Tbilisi Assembly (Sakrebulo) from the United National Movement (UNM), quit the party.
Nino Kvitaishvili said the UNM Faction Chair, Irakli Nadiradze, instructed her on behalf of the UNM Chair, Levan Khabeishvili, and Tbilisi Party Organization Chair, Zaza Gogava, to either “obey the party management” or “choose her way and Nika Gvaramia.”
Kvitaishvili stated that she will be an independent member of the City Assembly. She explained that her decision was a logical one, as she had always expressed her dissatisfaction with the changes in the party leadership. Rather than waiting to be dismissed, she chose to leave on her own terms.
“As for Nika Gvaramia, he is my long-time friend and the only person in the political field in Georgia today who has the experience of gaining success from zero during the Georgian Dream period, as well as its defeat. I know for sure that he will make changes and defeat the Georgian Dream. I cannot imagine this fight without him. I choose the way together with his team of young idealists,” she said.
Nino Kvitaishvili added that she wished success to the UNM and freedom and health to jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, whom she called a “political prisoner.”
