UNM press service reports jailed Saakashvili's son to be part of UNM delegation to United States

The Unity-National Movement (UNM) party launched its official visit to the U.S. on May 12, the first visit after the House of Representatives in the U.S. Congress passed the MEGOBARI Act.

According to the UNM’s press service, the delegation comprises the party leaders and Nikoloz Saakashvili, the younger son of jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

“Today, we launched meetings in the U.S. Congress to express gratitude to its members for the recently adopted MEGOBARI Act, which has been passed to the Senate. We will also hold meetings in the Senate for the prompt endorsement of the Act, which offers many advantages to the Georgian people, Georgia and also envisages the imposition of personal sanctions on Ivanishvili and his entourage. Our delegation also includes President Saakashvili’s son, Nikoloz Saakashvili, who said at today’s meeting that his father is persecuted for resistance to Putin.

However, this is resistance, which will be won by the U.S., Ukraine and Georgia, and our goal is to be on the side of the winners,” said UNM Chair Tina Bokuchava.
