UNM member says cooperation between opposition parties, Salome Zourabichvili inevitable

“Cooperation between opposition parties and Salome Zourabichvili will continue. This cooperation is inevitable,” said Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the National Movement party.

According to Pavlenishvili, President Salome Zourabichvili is the person who the international partners talk to as a representative of Georgia.

“When dictatorship is being established in the country, all forces, which fight against this dictatorship are obliged to cooperate or coordinate with one another at the minimal level. This is the order of unprecedented protest wave,” he said.

Speaking about future plans, Pavlenishvili remarked that this regime should end, new elections be appointed and political prisoners released.

He said Georgia’s issue was significant for European security, therefore opposition kept constant communication with Western partners through letters and holding meetings.

“With our capital and resources within the country, we can help the great national resistance, and we are active in this regard, although today the situation is such that the main organizers are ordinary citizens. However, based on our experience, political parties have more resources to participate in certain activities that we carry out on the international front and within the country to de-legitimize the regime,” Pavlenishvili said.

Responding to the question on the possible alliance of the four opposition coalitions and Salome Zurabichvili, Pavlenishvili said:

“Currently when party and political process is dead in the country due to deepening dictatorship, cleansing in public services, opposition political parties are blocked and new elections have no sense, speaking about alliances and forming political blocs is inadequate. Therefore we have a program and the most significant goal – dismantling this regime,” he said.
