UNM: Georgian voters hold key to releasing jailed ex-president

“The fate of our country, and the key to the prison cell that will free Mikheil Saakashvili, rests with the voters on October 26,” stated Davit Kirkitadze, Executive Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM), during the presentation of Saakashvili’s book in Rustavi.

Kirkitadze claimed the government fears Saakashvili and his book, attempting to cancel the event. The UNM also faced refusals from those who were to provide a venue at the Rustavi Hotel.

He called October 26 “a unique opportunity” to reject a government that he accused of destroying the country and ceding it to Russia.

“We have fought against the Russian regime for 12 years and are pleased that people in every city are raising their voices. This is our chance: the country’s fate is in our hands, and we can unlock Saakashvili’s cell on the morning of October 27, legally liberating the man who did so much for our nation. Georgian voters must do their part on October 26 to eliminate this ‘Fifth Column’ loyal to Moscow,” Kirkitadze urged.
