UNM, GD Chairs to squabble at EU office

Nika Melia, Chairman and leader of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, and Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Chair, engaged in a verbal skirmish at the EU Delegation Office in Tbilisi.

Irakli Kobakhidze was giving an interview to Georgian journalists when Melia interrupted. He called the GD Chair ‘a slave’ and claimed that nobody would believe that UNM supports stabbed their own activists in Dmanisi.

Kobakhidze, in his turn, called Melia ‘scoundrel provocateur.’ The parties traded insulting remarks for several minutes.

Two individuals were stabbed in Dmanisi, Kvemo Kartli region, on September 21. Giorgi Tatuashvili, United National Movement (UNM) party’s mayoral candidate, said he was holding his pre-election meeting in Gantiadi village when members of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party physically assaulted the UNM supporters.
