“The impeachment of the Gori Sakrebulo chairman can only succeed if Gakharia’s representatives sign in support, an essential step for them to genuinely position themselves as the opposition,” Giorgi Botkoveli, the regional secretary of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party, has stated.

According to Botkoveli, twelve votes are required to carry out the impeachment, and these can be secured with the support of opposition members within the Sakrebulo.

“My assessment of all this is no longer necessary; society has already judged the shameful, treacherous statement made by the Gori Sakrebulo (City Council) chairman. Though, frankly, it didn’t surprise anyone.

We’ve heard many of his statements, which directly align with the Russian narrative and reflect the stance of the current so-called government. He has openly expressed the Georgia Dream’s position, a stance we constantly hear echoed. It is particularly telling that this comes from the chairman of the Gori Sakrebulo, the very person leading this war-torn city’s council, who is clearly carrying out Ivanishvili’s directives. This, in essence, reveals their true face.

Regarding the impeachment process, we initiated it yesterday with nine members of the city council. However, the procedure requires a total of twelve votes to proceed. In the case of genuine opposition support, securing twelve votes is possible. We have been waiting for the Gakharia for Georgia representatives to sign in support for the second day.

Initially, they refused; then, we accused them of refusal, and later, they attempted to give the impression of reconsideration by issuing a statement. However, by the evening, these individuals disappeared and were unable to sign the necessary documents for the impeachment.

If they wish to present themselves as an opposition party alongside us, they need to sign the document promptly. We are prepared to proceed without delay once the signatures are in place,” Botkoveli has stated.
