The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on four Georgian citizens — Mamuka Pipia, Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, Giorgi Iremadze and Paata Abuladze.
The sanctions include asset freezes, a ban on entering the UK, and restrictions on trust-related services.
According to information released by the UK government, Mamuka Pipia has promoted or been involved in policies or actions that destabilize Ukraine or undermine, threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.
The document states that, as leader and international secretary of the Georgian political party Solidarity for Peace, Pipia led a delegation of Georgian politicians who met with the head of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, and subsequently publicised the visit. He has also promoted Russian disinformation narratives.
According to the same document, Giorgi Iremadze, a member of Solidarity for Peace’s political council, joined the Georgian politicians’ delegation that met with the head of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.
The UK government said Iremadze was also involved in providing support or promoting policy or action which destabilises Ukraine or undermines or threatens the territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence of Ukraine.
According to the UK government, Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, the founder of a Georgian Russian-language TV channel, also joined the delegation of Georgian politicians.
Paata Abuladze is also identified in the UK government document as a member of the delegation and a political and military commentator.
Earlier, the British Embassy in Georgia announced sanctions against Marat Kambolov, Alan Gagloev and Sergei Tolmachov, who, according to the embassy, are linked to Georgia’s illegally occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
