UK expands Russia sanctions list, includes three individuals linked to occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia regions
“Today the UK is sanctioning 31 individuals, entities and ships under the UK’s Russia sanctions regulations, for activities that threaten the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine,” the British Embassy in Georgia said in a statement.
According to the embassy, those sanctioned include three individuals linked to Georgia’s occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Marat Kambolov, Alan Gagloev and Sergey Tolmachev.
“This includes three individuals with links to Georgia’s illegally occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Marat Kambolov, Alan Gagloev and Sergey Tolmachev.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is part of a broader pattern of disregard for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognised borders of its neighbours, including through its continued occupation of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The UK condemns Russia’s ongoing attempts to consolidate its unlawful control over Georgia’s occupied regions, including through the so called “presidential election” in South Ossetia on 18 September and further steps towards de facto annexation. We remain steadfast in our support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders and will continue to hold Russia accountable for its actions,” the embassy added.
