TSU Rector: Student intake won’t significantly decrease; reform will offer new reality
“Within the framework of higher education reform, Tbilisi State University plans to promote those disciplines with a centuries-old history,” Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University, has stated.
According to him, Tbilisi State University will be the country’s principal centre for fundamental science.
“Within the framework of higher education reform, Tbilisi State University plans to promote those disciplines with a centuries-old history. I wish to emphasise that the university will be the principal centre for fundamental science in the country. The results of public opinion research will determine certain quotas, specifying the number of students each higher education institution can admit. It’s difficult for me to speak about specific quotas at present; however, I wish to note that Tbilisi State University will not, in fact, significantly reduce the number of students it admits. In this regard, we shall offer our students an entirely new reality, a reality that is being planned as a result of implementing the reform,” Samushia noted.
For context, Georgia’s government has approved student admission quotas for state universities. Admissions at Tbilisi State University will be announced in the following disciplines: the exact and natural sciences, humanities (excluding pedagogy), law, economics and business administration, and social and political sciences.
