Traffic restrictions lifted in Devdoraki Valley; Dariali border checkpoint resumes normal operations

Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), acting on recommendations from the National Environment Agency and following an assessment of the current situation in the Devdoraki Valley, have lifted the restrictions on vehicular movement, according to an MIA statement.

According to the agency, the Dariali border crossing point [Larsi checkpoint] has likewise resumed normal operations.

“An alert signal was received in the first half of the day from the early warning system installed in Devdoraki, which detects even minimal changes in the riverbed flow.

In accordance with protocol, citizens present on site, as well as patrol police, customs service, border police, and private company employees working at the Dariali border crossing point, were instantly evacuated to a safe location.

All traffic has been halted in both directions near the village of Gveleti as a precaution.

According to the National Environment Agency, the hazard level in the Devdoraki Valley has now been stood down,” the MIA statement reads.
