Batumi building collapse: Three people charged with safety violations

Three people have been charged with violating safety rules during maintenance and construction works that resulted in deaths and severe consequences, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reported on Sunday.

According to the investigation, those individuals removed load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls during construction-renovation works that led to the collapse.

Interior Ministry apprehended three people over the incident on Saturday, including a ground floor flat owner who hired those two workers.

A total of nine people, including three minors, have died following the collapse on October 8.

October 11 has been declared a day of mourning.
