Three members of UNM Faction in Chokhatauri Sakrebulo quit party

Three members of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) faction in the Chokhatauri Municipality Assembly (Sakrebulo) have announced their decision to quit the party.

In a statement, the faction cited concerns about the recent developments in the new leadership of the UNM.

“The recent developments within the new leadership of the UNM have become a clear indication to the majority of party members, as well as the public, that political processes within the party are unfolding in an undesirable manner. Since the coming of the new management, different, critical opinions from party members have been deemed unacceptable. Moreover, the party has neglected the interests of the people, loyal voters. Given these circumstances, it is untenable to remain in a party where diverse perspectives are not welcomed.

The party appears to be influenced by informal governance from the ‘Cyprus Club’, and the core values that the UNM stood for over the years are being disregarded. Taking into account these and other factors, we, the three members of the Chokhatauri Municipality faction have decided to resign from both the party and the faction.

However, we remain committed to the fight alongside morally upright and deserving individuals, particularly within Nika Melia’s team,” the statement reads.
